MADRYN & PENINSULA VALDES
A break to see Puerto Madryn and Península Valdés is the new proposal for this season. Based at Las Grutas, this full-day experience proposes to see the largest southern right whale sanctuary in the world by visiting Puerto Pirámide and Madryn.
We leave in a modern bus (or 4x4 WD vehicule for individual passengers) at 8:00 in the morning with a guide and air conditioning. Along National Route 3 and after breakfast, we travel through the Patagonian steppe towards Peninsula Valdés, located 230 Kms from Las Grutas. We pass by Sierra Grande, home of the largest iron mine in Argentina, and continue the journey to the Ameghino Interpretation Centre, located on the isthmus, where you can see the San José and Nuevo Gulfs, separated from each other by 7 km of steppe. A tour around its rooms invites visitors to discover a giant skeleton of the Southern Right Whale, enjoy a documentary, watch the remains of Fort San José -destroyed by a Tehuelche Indian "malon" in the XVII century- and a flora and fauna exhibition that anticipates the good things we are about to see in the rest of the trip.
Before arriving at Puerto Pirámide, we visit the Lobería (a sea lions sanctuary) and can have lunch at a beachfront bar from where we will embark for whale watching or, out of season, sea lions and cormorants.
The option is to do the boat trip, spend the afternoon on the beach, tour the town, or simply enjoy a good lunch by the sea.
Then, we will leave for Puerto Madryn, a city tour and the possibility of visiting this spectacular city that invites visitors to discover its shopping centers, buy souvenirs and handmade chocolates and return, as soon as the sun sets, to Las Grutas.
(Ask about private tours for 2, 4 and up to 15 people)
